During the treatment, IPL shines light directly at the hair follicles. The color or melanin in the hair follicles then absorbs that light and this results in heat generated into the hair follicle which essentially disables the hair from growing because cells no longer regenerate in the follicle, and as a result, hair stops growing.

In the past, most hair removal treatments worked mainly for those who had a certain skin color and hair color because those devices needed a specific pigment and a contrast between skin and hair color for best results.
